Baking with Silicone

For the last time! It’s not silicon. It’s an inorganic-organic polymer, according to Wikipedia, and has a wide variety of uses. Sure, one use of the stuff is to make you better endowed, but that’s a little beyond our usual testing. So we decided to try the bakeware instead, from SiliconeZone. They offer a wide variety of bakeware and it’s really fun- it doesn’t look or feel oven-safe, but it is! Best of all, it is extremely easy to clean, heats more evenly that most other materials, and is really colorful! We tried to bake a few items using their cupcake and cake pans, and were pleasantly surprised at the quality, even versus some other silicone bakeware we had tried. But the best item that we tried had to be the thin, lightweight, sturdy cutting boards. Translucent and attractive, they come in a set of four and are cleverly labeled: one each for vegetables, chicken, beef, and fish- so you can avoid the common pitfall of slicing your meats and then rolling your vegetables around in the same place! SiliconeZone offers a bunch of other nifty kitchen gadgets, from ice cube trays to colanders. They are available at Amazon, Macy’s, and Cooking.com- and are quite reasonably priced. Silicone seems like the way to go, unless you have a definite thing for wood and metal or a dislike of pastels.
